Miraculous love: A celebration of our 10th meetanniversary

Miraculous love: A celebration of our 10th meetanniversary

For as long as we have known each other, my Husband and I have celebrated every 11th of every month. Whenever July 11th comes around, we celebrate even harder than we do on our wedding anniversary. We truly feel as though there would be no us without this special day. So, it was a no brainer to celebrate in a big way for the 10th anniversary of the day we met.

Our oldest child is already familiar with how we met, but we wanted all of them to be part of this celebration. The idea was to go back to the very spot where we met and take pictures there around the time we met, followed by a party with family and friends. We flew across the world to Burundi for this, and it was worth every penny.

When we arrived for the pictures, we realized that the very spot where we shook each other’s hands for the first time was now inside of a parking place. Luckily, there were no cars inside at the time, so we were able to take some of our photos there.

Although we didn’t exactly recreate that first moment, the photographer was able to capture this 2019 version of the joy we felt when we first met. A few pounds and some eyeglasses later, we stood here once again to express our gratitude for that magical day.

One of our favorites places to be in Burundi is on lake Tanganyika. Back in the day, we had most of our important conversations there. So, it made sense to commemorate that as well.

I still can’t believe that THIS is the man I get to grow old and gray with. God is good!

To end the day on a high note, we threw a party at a waterfront restaurant called Geny’s Beach. They set up tents in a quiet part where our family and friends joined us for food and drinks. This was the first party EVER to be attended by every member my Husband’s immediate family. Special doesn’t begin to describe it.

It was also a great opportunity to celebrate with some of my cousins. One of them came out with me the very first time I went on a date with my guy. It was a blessing to have her there for this occasion.

And my favorite moment of the whole event was when Husband took the “stage” to tell everyone why it was important that we do this. If you ever have a chance to talk to him about it, ask him to recount the story of how we met. His version is the best because it includes how he felt in the moments before we actually met.

It is safe to say that we did what we set out to do. We celebrated in a way that mattered to us. Our children got to experience the magic of that special place. And we get to look forward to a lifetime of loving each other like there is no tomorrow.
