The key is to just begin
“Should he do the speech in French or English?” That’s a question I sent our six year old’s first grade teacher this morning. It is a simple question with a powerful reminder for me.
It has been a mere 18 months since our boy started learning French. That seems like a really short time, but it has already brought him to a point where he can write and present a speech in French. All he had to do was begin, and everything else came together with some dedication and hard work
I was reminded that, sometimes, all I need to do is begin. Make a plan and take the first baby step. Know when I have reached a crossroads and begin again - this time, in a new and better direction. Simetimes, it might seem like I will never see the results I want, but I will never know if I don’t start. I am reminded of the fact that everything I do comes together in the end to make the sum of who I am.
For our son, the sum of who he is includes being a curious multilingual learner. Where will taking your first step take you? I am beginning again. I am recommitting to giving time to the things I enjoy doing, including sharing my ramblings on here. At the end of the day, I want the sum of me to clearly indicate the moments when I decided to just begin.
