The healing power of music - part 1
It has been said time and time again that music is good for the soul. This has proved to be true in my case. Music makes it easy for me to navigate through my day. By now, I have an assortment of songs that come into play as needed. There are songs I play so often, even my two year old knows and requests them on a regular basis.
For when I am high on life: Demarco - Love My Life
This one speaks for itself. No matter how crazy things get, I only get one life to live. I want to face every emotion firm in the knowledge that life is a gift despite the occasional turbulence.
For when I cannot stop thinking of my handsome partner: Juliana Kanyomozi ft Bushoke - Usiende Mbali New Ugandan Music
He works 30 minutes away from home. As most people in my life know, I work from home. While I can manage just fine without him, I miss him when he is not home. He played me this song when we started our journey, so it still connects us.
For when my heart is full of gratitude: APOLLINAIRE H-NEGEREYI INTEBE YAWE, Yemi Alade - Na Gode (Swahili Version Official Video)
There are many more in this category. This is the state of mind that dominates my being. In the midst of the toughest times, I am comforted by all that I have to be grateful for.
For when I feel overwhelmed and defeated but know I am not alone: Lauren Daigle - Trust In You
For when I just want to chill or when my boys want a dance party, the late Mandoza of South Africa is a top pick. Along with him are a few songs by Kidum and a random selection from other Burundian, Nigerian, and Tanzanian artists.
